Community

Though the strands and activities during the TDI Summer Camp form the foundation, fostering an inviting and inclusive community is an equally important goal for us. Part of the magic of TDI is that any child will feel at home, regardless of their interests, backgrounds, social development, or anything else. We work hard to maintain this environment so that the camp is as accepting and judgement-free as possible. The relationships that campers develop with one other extend far beyond camp; many campers (and staff!) form lifelong friendships at TDI. We believe that the spirit and community of TDI means so much more than a week or two on-campus each summer.

TDI lives in the hearts of our many campers, Leadershippers, and staff. We all look forward with great anticipation each year to TDI Summer Camp, knowing that at TDI we will “find our people”, and reconnect with those people year after year. We’ve been frequently told by campers that they feel safe to be who they are at TDI and feel like they do not have to hide parts of themselves in order to fit in. They feel that they can have the crazy or deep conversations they long for all year, and find friends - old and new - who understand their references and laugh at their jokes.

Creating this environment is what we do best at TDI. We provide a place and a program where gifted kids can come together, find each other, find themselves, and feel like they truly belong. We welcome new campers with open arms, in the hopes that they feel like they belong, too.

[My child’s] confidence level soared; they loved being surrounded by like-minded friends.

The friendships I formed as a TDI camper became my most valued relationships; in them, I have found support, companionship, and a sense of belonging.
